The Lillie

The Lillie

(This poem was written at the request of Kevin's mother when his grandmother went home to be with Jesus.  Grandma's name was Lillie.  Grandma Lillie truly sent her soul out with "little tiny sneezes" and in her last days she was in conversation with loved ones that had preceded her to Heaven just as the poem relates .)

The angels have a garden
Full of flowers that they tend.
It's along the side of Jordan
Right in the river's bend.

There are roses of all colors,
Heather tall and violet sweet.
But they sensed something was missing.
Something just seemed incomplete.

"What in Heaven could be lacking?
"We have all that we need, really."
"No, we don't," said one fair angel.
"We have not acquired a Lily."

A search was on in Heaven.
But this flower was not found.
"In Paradise, we find it not.
"To the Earth we must be bound."

"Such a Lillie lives in Sanford,"
said one angel to another.
"She's a beauty and a treasure,
a great friend and loving mother."

"We must have her," they declared.
"How long must she remain?"
"Not long my friends," the angel stated.
"She is sick and in some pain."

"Let us make her journey easy.
Give her time to say goodbyes.
Send her mother, son, and husband
to escort her when she flies."

With her family gathered 'round her,
Her last days were spent in love.
And with little tiny sneezes,
Sent her soul out like a dove.

Quite a party there in Heaven
Met this lady at the gate,
For such a precious blossom,
They could no longer wait.

Now, garden's peerless.
Not another could compare.
That this Lille blooms in Heaven,
Is a FACT...we're well aware.
