Borrowed Treasure

Borrowed Treasure

(Written in memory of the child of a friend.
His name is changed to "This Child" for the sake of publication)

Some souls come to Earth to learn.
Others are here to teach.
The Lord will send a messenger
To the folks He hopes to reach.

The precious soul that came your way,
Keep his lessons in your heart.
Let his little gems of knowledge
In your life remain a part.

From this child you learned patience.
You'll need that all your days.
Sometimes its not the goal, but effort
That does deserve the praise.

The love you shared transformed you.
Share this brilliant love with all.
For this highest of emotions,
There is no greater call.

He taught you that to overcome
Those things that we find tough,
By tackling them head on you'll find
Nothing is all that rough.

There were those that showed him kindness.
He hopes you'll pass that on.
And in this way his presence
From this Earth is never gone.

Greet each day with a happy smile.
Don't let life make you blue.
Just keep in mind if this child smiled,
Then by all means, so can you.

Not everybody looks the same.
He did not fit a mold.
But remember in a plain cocoon,
A butterfly is rolled.

God gave you a compliment
By trusting you to let
This little soldier in your lives
To see his needs were met.

He now is reaping his reward.
His joys, they will abound.
The love he knew on Earth with you,
In Heaven he has found.
